GIR XIII 2009 Headliners Announced

Great Indian Rock returns for its thirteenth installment this October. The other big annual Indian rock gig comes back this year far leaner (just like the other one). With gigs in just four cities and two relatively unknown international headliners, the effects of the financial slowdown have visibly taken their toll on GIR (though some gigs don’t need a recession to disappear).
The two international headliners are US metal act Intronaut (pictured) and Norwegian hardcore act Benea Reach. Intronaut toured recently with Mastodon while Benea Reach is, well, a Norwegian hardcore act. Last year’s headliners were metal acts Sahg, Satyricon and Freak Kitchen.

The GIR show heads to four cities this year. Dates

Oct 24-25 – Hamsadhwani Theatre, New Delhi
Oct 25 – Palace Grounds, Bangalore
Oct 23 – Oasis, Pune
Oct 24 – Nazrul Manch, Kolkata

That’s right, the Delhi leg is on the same days as the Eastwind Festival. GIR will vie for the same attention as Eastwind in the battle of the obscure international acts. Though given Eastwind’s promise of more acts to come, and a bunch of fun Indian acts already lined up, we have a feeling the Great India Place Theme Park will have a few more visitors than Hamsadhwani theatre.
